Explosion proof motor


1. General Introduction

  • Explosion proof motors are cooled by blowers attached to the axles mounted on the rear of the motor or directly by an external blower of blower tube system. These types of motor are used in mines including risks of gas and dust explosion
  • Explosion proof motors are designed assembly dimensions in accordance with TCVN079-0: 2002, TCVN 7079-1: 2002, TCVN 7079-7: 2002, TCVN 7079-9: 2002
  • Flameproof motors’ dimensions are designed in accordance with Vietnamese standard TCVN, IEC34-72, which is very convenient for replacing the same types of motor in mining equipment in Vietnam
  • The motors are designed with the flameproof protection grade which is Exdl, in which:
    • Character “Ex”: indicates the motor is designed in the form of explosion protection, used in explosive environment.
    • Character “d”: Indicates the motor is designed with a non-explosive protective casing.
    • Character “I”: indicates the motor which is designed belongs a group of explosion-proof motor used in mines including gas and dust explosion
  • The casing of motor’s body is made of steel, front lid and back lid are made of gray cast iron 18-36, with the structure of pressure explosion proof

2. The explosion proof motors which have the explosion-proof protection structure 3P (M, S) with pole number 2, 4, 6 have the following main parameters and characteristics:

  • Motor symbol code: 3P132 (M, S) *.
  • The symbol * (* = 2, 4, 6) indicate pole number of the motor, for example: * = 2, synchronous speed of explosion proof motor is 3000 rpm, * = 4 synchronous speed of explosion proof motor is rpm is 1500 rpm, etc.
  • The motor is squirrel cage rotor 3 phase alternating-current motor.
  • The voltage used: 220/380 or 380/660V.
  • Number of phases:  3 phases
  • Frequency:  50 Hz
  • Environment: – Temperature: (from -50C to +400C)

3. Description of explosion proof motor Explosion proof motors are used in mines and pits.  Casing of the motor is made of steel tubes that base and cooling fins are welded. The casing of the motor helps to locate the stator inside the casing. Two ends of the body are two lids made of cast iron 18-36 molded with the ball bearing. The axis of motor is attached to the rotor and supported by two front and rear bearings. The front end of the motor is load bearing mandrel nose of the system, rear axis head is fitted with cooling blower and lids. The cable box has six terminals connected to the poles via explosion-proof joints. The type of blower motor soldered with the balance in the casing of blower’s body by steel plates with welded structure, ensuring that when fixing the propellers on two axes, the gap between the propellers and casing is from 3 to 5mm and spaced evenly from the casing The type of motors with base and flange are fitted with additional charge including centrifugal blower, bladed impeller, etc. whose size of installation is in accordance with standard

  • Structure of Cable box cap

  • Structure of cable box support flange 

+ Type of joints: cylindrical joints + Structure of fixed joints: use countersunk bolts with grower preventing the self-loosening + The largest slit of the joints: £ 0,3mm. + Minimum width of joints: ³ 13mm + Machined surface ensuring the greatest roughness: £ 6,3mm.

  • Structure of lid and axis

  • Structure of binding post

Copper bolt pole of electrical transmission is fixed with composite. Quantity: 06 sets + Type of joints: cylindrical joints + The largest slit of the joints: £ 0,3mm. + Minimum width of joints: ³ 25mm. + Machined surface ensuring the greatest roughness: £ 6,3mm. + The smallest slit from conductive part to the part of no power: ³ 12mm. + The biggest distance of junction leakage current on conductive part: ³ 16mm.

  • Structure of Cable funnel

Cable conduit includes two main parts: – The body is molded with the pole box casing which has rubber ring made of hard-to-burn material and stell ring compressed by rubber has the minimum length between the cable and cable clamp after compression of 20mm. – Cable funnel + Cylindrical structure + Structure of fixed joints: use countersunk bolts with grower preventing the self-loosening On the cable funnel, use claw to take the end of cables out and use countersunk bolts with grower preventing the self-loosening

  • Earthing part

- The grounding position is molded into the pole body, using the copper bolts (LcuZn20) to clamp earthling Quantity: 1 piece

  1. Instructions for use, preservation and maintenance
  • General instructions

The instructions for use are applied to explosion proof motors and issued at Hanoi Electromechanical Manufacturing Joint Stock Company (HEM) The information given in the instructions are only main parts of the motors. Please contact HEM to know more about parameters of the equipment, accessories Any improper action of use as directed by the manufacturer shall not be eligible for any warranty The manual will be attached to each motor before delivery and enclosed with the motor or enclosed with other documents when delivered In order to ensure safety during use, the following conditions of use must be strictly followed:

  • Joints must be screwed tightly by bolts
  • The connection components must be screwed tightly and not stretched
  • Use the transmission cable matching cable joint and cable clamp
  • In case of opening the screwed parts, the device is in state of cutting power (The equipment is in the absence of power)
  • It is required to fix the blower tightly during operation (not let the blower vibrated, moved or ousted during operation) through the support system welded to the body of blower and bolt holes

Explosion proff blower must be grounded in accordance with regulations during the operation a. Motor number Each motor has a number attached to mornitor and put into use during operation of the motor b. Installation The motor is horizontal axis type installed by according to work requirements of the producer Type of cooling: Cooled by outside blower forced air mounted on axis of the motor c. Normal working conditions + Maximum working temperature is around 450C + Highest altitude compared to sea level is 1000m + The foundation has the vibroinsulation to the outside + Cooling air must be separated from salt, gas, dirt and trash. + The working temperature limit during the test run is specified on the motor label.

  • Transportation and storage
  • Transportation

The motors are packaged in sealed plastic bags to prevent rainwater during transport and storage The motor is ravished mandrel nose to avoid the axial rotation and axial deflection during transportation (for large motors)

  • Preservation and storage

The motors must be stored by the canvas, bags as lided when handed over and be located in warehouse The warehouses for preserving the motors must be clean, dry and ventilated and removed toxins, dirt, strong impacts or abnormal vibrations. The motors must be protected from the attack of termites and insects The temperature of the warehouses is from 100C to 500C and humidity does not exceed 75%. Storage time is less than 2 months. During this time, when moving to an unmounted installation position, the motors must be kept away from sources of harm such as gas, dust, strong impact and vibration If the moisture exceeds 75%, it is required to dry the motors. In order to avoid moisture penetration into the measured motor and check the temperature after drying, the temperature should be maintained at higher level 5 to 100C than environment temperature. In case of installation but not trial run: if the motors are installed at the workplace but has not been put into operation for a long term because of some reasons, it is required to preserve and check, measure parameters for the operation of the motors but not yet put into use

  • Installation and connection
  • Mechanical part

Fit the joints together by connection systems including bulbs or rubber driven cushions Check the influent channel whether it is blocked by strange objects which is harmful for motors

  • Electrical part

- Connect the earth lead system – Connect cable system into pole box (Supply power to armature strings and magnetic strings)

  • Operation
  • No –load operation

Be sure that all the conditions of ensuring that the motors may be operated without any problems Operation cabinets should be equipped with protection system from the overload or short circuit for the safety of motors when running Observation when performing no load operation a. Check the bearings – Check temperature of bearing when operating – Check the noise and vibration when operating b. Check the cooling system and cooling capacity – Observe and monitor the cooling line of motors

  • Load operation

Operate with the same process as above, provided that the DC motors run at load. After full load operation, it is necessary to check and monitor the motors within 72 hours

  • Preservation, maintenance and warranty
  • Preservation

After a period of operation, the motor may stop working for a long time. In this time, it is necessary to preserve DC motors according to the following methods:

  • Always clean the outside motor, prevent from dirt sticking out of the motor, causing rust losing the beauty of the machine
  • Regularly dry the stator winding to limit the decrease of insulance of the winding
  • Maintenace
  • After 2000 hours of continuous work, add lubricant to the motor and remove the excess lubricant that is rinsed out under the outside lid. (For the motor equipped with the lubricant pump system, it is not necessary to add lubricant for the small motor using 2Z bearing, only periodically perform maintenance and replace bearings)
  • Regularly check the tightening of bolts, screw nuts and add lubricant to ensure the quality of joints
  • It is necessary to regularly check the coal dust filter system during the work process. If the system is dirty, it is required to dismantle and clean by compressed air, cleaning laundry and drying before re-fitting
  • Warranty

Explosion proof motors are warranted for a period of 6 months from the date of delivery. Any defect caused by manufacturer’s fault will be repaired free of charge. The motors shall not be warranted in the following cases:

  • Do not comply with instructions of manufacturer
  • Beyond the warranty period.
  • Damage caused by impact during transport or installation of the motors.
  • The motors are overloaded in case of loss of field
  • The causes of damages are from other factors excluding the motor, they are also not given the warranty
